1. Introduction

At SocialMeshHub, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly to us, including:

  • Account Information: Email address, name, and password when you create an account; or, when you sign in with Google, your Google account email and profile data you consent to share
  • Profile Information: Profile name, bio, profession, interests, profile picture (or generated avatar), and SNS links (e.g. LinkedIn, Instagram, GitHub) you add to your profile
  • Room Information: Room names, descriptions, required fields, and participation data; when you join a room as a member or as a guest, we store your membership and any required data (e.g. nickname, guest name) you provide
  • Friends and Connections: If you use the friends feature, we store friend relationships and SNS link click data (which room members you have connected with) locally in your browser and, where applicable, in our systems
  • Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our service, including real-time presence (e.g. online status in a room) and in-app preferences

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our services
  • Process transactions and send related information
  • Send technical notices, updates, and support messages
  • Respond to your comments, questions, and requests
  • Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues

4. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • With Your Consent: We may share your information when you explicitly consent to such sharing
  • Public Profiles: If you choose to make your profile public, your profile information may be visible to other users
  • Room Participation: When you join a room, your profile information may be visible to other room members
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities

5. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access and receive a copy of your personal data
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete personal data
  • Request deletion of your personal data
  • Object to processing of your personal data
  • Request restriction of processing your personal data
  • Data portability - receive your data in a structured format

7. Cookies, Storage, and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies (including local storage and session storage) to provide our service. For example, we store authentication state, room join status, and per-room SNS connection data (which links you clicked) in your browser so that your experience is consistent. Guest session data (e.g. nickname and room membership) is stored in session storage and is cleared when you leave or close the tab. You can instruct your browser to refuse cookies or clear storage; doing so may limit or reset parts of the service (e.g. you may need to re-join rooms or re-authenticate).

8. Third-Party Services

We use Supabase for authentication, database, and real-time features; when you sign in with Google, Google's authentication and data practices apply to that sign-in. Our app may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g. LinkedIn, Instagram, GitHub) that are not owned or controlled by SocialMeshHub. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of those third-party services.

If you add the app to your home screen (PWA / Add to Home Screen), the same privacy and data practices described in this policy apply to that installation.

9. Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

10. Data Retention

We will retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this privacy policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the Last updated date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
